Congratulations, Presley.

May 29, 2025

A few weeks ago, my daughter Presley got passed her final drivers test. She’s 17. My oldest. And with every new step she takes, I realize I’m stepping into something new too—fatherhood, version by version.

She’s already attending Eastern Washington University, on track to graduate with a college degree the same time she finishes high school. She doesn’t talk much about how impressive that is—but I see it. I see her.

But here’s what I want her—and all my daughters—to always know:

My pride in you doesn’t rise or fall with your accomplishments. You don’t have to do anything extraordinary to be worthy of love. You are the extraordinary thing.

Presley, you will always have me.

When life is good, when it’s heavy, when it feels like too much or not enough—you’ll have me.

Not to fix it all. But to stand beside you, proud. Strong. Loving. Steady.

A place to land. A source of peace. A reminder that being yourself is more than enough.

As I grow older, and you grow into all the beautiful things this world has waiting for you, just know—

You don’t have to earn me.

You never did.

And you never will.

Congratulations, Presley.

This is just one moment. But what a beautiful one it is.
